Gray Hair

Well it finally happen folks... dun dun dun... I find a gray hair. Could it be from my car getting smashed, my dog bleeding from his butt two weeks ago, a crumbling economy, or which candidate will make the better president... or could it be from taking math again after 6 years. Ugh, that may be it.

California Wine Month

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared September “California Wine Month” for the fourth consecutive year. The one time restaurateur (anybody remember Schatzi on Main?) pointed to our state's wine community as “one of the largest and most successful wine producing regions in the world.”

"Every bottle of California wine served across the globe reflects our excellence and serves as an ambassador for our fantastic lifestyle, cuisine and culture," Schwarzenegger proclaimed.

As further proof of this belief, Schwarzenegger has also lent his support to the historic partnership between the Wine Institute and the California Travel & Tourism Commission (CTTC). The Governor recently appeared along with First Lady Maria Shriver in a national TV commercial promoting the state's wine and cuisine offerings.

At dineLA we agree that California wines are a defining feature of our colorful culinary character. They inspire our chefs to create some of the freshest, most inventive dishes in the world, and challenge our diners to develop sophisticated palates on par with those in the other great food cities around the globe.

In celebration of these facts we’ve teamed up with American Express to bring you wine & dineLA, two weeks of sensational wine pairing menus presented at over 40 of LA’s top restaurants, September 7 – 21, 2008. What better way to celebrate California Wine Month then with some of your favorite local chefs?

So savor a Paso Robles cabernet sauvignon in Santa Monica, sip a Russian River Valley pinot noir in Long Beach, or indulge in a Santa Barbara Viognier in Hollywood. Wherever you like to dine, and whatever you like to imbibe, LA has the perfect combination of ingredients to make the most of California Wine Month.

Side Swiped this weekend

We decided to leave the safety of our home to enjoy this beautiful weekend weather. We went to Downtown Burbank on Sunday and caught a movie at the AMC and walked the streets to check out the stores. On the way home we decided to got to Islands for dinner (up at porter Ranch).

We never made that dinner date. We just got off the freeway (Balboa exit) and we (Travis was the driver) were about to merge to the far right turning lane on Balboa to turn onto our street, Nordhoff. All was clear until we started to change lanes, this jack-hole in a Blazer came almost 60ph trying to cut us off, because he couldn't wait for the traffic to move, he was going straight but decided to use the right turn only lane to cut us off.

He took the bumper and the two lights in the front. We barely could get it home, the plastic wheel wells were scraping the tires. Maybe plastic car was a good purchase, because it only took the bumper off not scrapped the whole side of the car.

Here is the Bumper. When we took the car to the shop the girl there ask "where's the bumper" I quick wittily replied, "its in the back seat"

Here are my dreams being crushed by passing cars. We drove into the nearest drive way, which was a 7-11. As we parked we see car run over the pieces. Lucky the guy wasn't suck a prick and stopped to exchange info, he was apologetic because it was his fault. He did ask if we were OK, only just before he wanted to leave. Ho Hum..

So now I am driving this hearse to school. It runs beautifully but it looks a little weird with the small windows and feels a little claustrophobic. It makes me feel a little paranoid. Its cool for the time being. On a scale from 1-10, i give it a 4 1/2......don't recommend you buy. I can't wait to get my baby back.
